Retune your inner harmony

What is sound healing and how does it work?

The use of sound in relaxation and healing has been around for thousands of years.

The sounds, tones and vibrations we experience in a practice like a gong bath can help us on many levels. They can connect us to our feelings, and help release our emotions - rebooting our nervous system.

The sciencey bit

Science has shown everything in the universe is made up of energy and vibrates at different frequencies - this includes us.  We know that the human body is on average made of 57-60% water. This makes us amazingly responsive to sound and vibration and the possibilities and potential of changes at a cellular level.

Our body and brain work together. If one part is out of balance it will be reflected in our emotional and physical health - such as stress, anxiety, sleep issues, depression etc.  Sound therapy can quickly transport us into a relaxing and meditative state (alpha brainwaves), and then carry us into a deeper sleep like state where we can connect and let go of our fears and concerns (theta brainwaves). Sometimes the brainwaves really slow into a very deep dreamless state where profound changes can happen (delta brainwaves).

Sound therapy with me

My practice of Gong Therapy connects to mindfulness of sound.  Gongs produce an widespread variety of sounds, which can bring about changes to our physical, emotional and spiritual wellbeing.

I was born into a family with a strong link to music and performance and my father pioneered electronic sound effects pedals in the 60s and 70s, so sound was a part of my everyday life.  I learnt from these early experiences and I believe that sound is an amazing gift for self-care and it brings a new and exciting dimension to the therapy room and counselling experience.

I studied for a year at The College of Sound Healing under Gong Teacher, Sheila Whittaker and completed the Gong Practitioner Certificate. I offer group gong baths, one to one and use gongs in therapy when indicated.
